Solomon: New hope for Malian cotton sector

August 18 2008

The recent decision by the Malian parliament to privatize the country\'s Textile Development Company is a significant development, asserted expert Philippe H. Solomon. Earlier this month the African state\'s chamber has approved the World Bank\'s inspired bill by an overwhelming majority.

\"Generally speaking, I think this decision will boost cotton production,\" the Tunisia-born specialist has stressed. \"This law is giving a new hope to re-ignite the production levels and ease the mounting deficit of this sector of the Malian economy,\" Solomon added.

It should be mentioned that Mali is one of the leading cotton producer in Africa. The Malian cotton is widely recognized as being of high quality.
